A point rescued

Berwick Rangers 3 - 3 Brechin City

Berwick went from being two goals up at half time, to 2-3 behind by 4.15. However an excellent strike from David Greenhill gave Berwick a deserved point. The result though still sends us to the bottom of the Irn Bru Division 2.

Berwick lost Robbie Horn early on which, with Jordan Smith unavailable today, meant Gary Wood had to play at centre back for 75 minutes. Lennox was a stand-in left back too but played his heart out. Regardless, Diack opened the scoring with a cross that seemed to get caught in the wind and deceive the Brechin keeper. Certainly seemed to surprise Diack that it went in.

McLeish made it two on the half hour as Berwick, while not particularly dominating, took their chances well.

After the break Brechin stormed back into it with three goals in ten minutes which stunned a sleepy Berwick. Did they really think the points were won already? Berwick legend Darren Smith, now Brechin captain, was instrumental in their revival and scored a delightful second for the visitors before a slightly suspect penalty saw Brechin take the lead. David Greenhill though levelled things up with a superbly controlled strike from the edge of the box.

Two Jags

Partick Thistle 3-1 Berwick Rangers

Berwick went out of this year's Challenge Cup after going down to two late goals at Firhill this evening. Berwick spent the majority of the first half defending and conceded the opening goal from a set piece. The Jags' Gary Harkins putting his free kick round the wall and into the net for the opener. The second half saw Berwick slowly but surely gain confidence and start to put Thistle under a bit more pressure. Thistle appeared to believe the game was over and were coasting although Berwick believed otherwise and pulled themselves back into the game when Danny Swanson tucked away an equaliser at the second attempt with just 12 minutes to go.

Sadly, that was the kick up the backside that Thistle needed and they clinched victory with two late goals.

A selection of photos from the game are below:

Bizarrely the game was held up for a short while when a sprinkler went off!
